International Museum Day

The aim of International Museum Day (DIM) is to raise awareness of the fact that museums are an important means of cultural exchange, the enrichment of cultures, as well as the development of mutual understanding, collaboration and peace between peoples. Organized every 18 May or around that date for more than 40 years, the events and activities planned to celebrate the DIM can last a day, a weekend or even the whole week. More and more museums around the world participate in this global celebration: last year, 37,000 museums took part in the event in 158 countries and territories.

With the theme “Museums for equality: diversity and inclusion” , the International Museum Day 2020 aims to become a meeting point to celebrate the diversity of perspectives that make up the communities and museum staff, as well as promote tools to identify and overcome prejudices in what museums show and in the stories they tell.

The website dedicated to International Museum Day offers all the information, tools and material for the 2020 edition. An interactive map will collect the events and activities that will take place around the world, while the Communication Kit will help you to participate on this occasion.
